The Deep Sea Fishing Experience takes you on a day out of offshore sport fishing in Hong Kong’s waters.

On the morning of your Deep Sea Fishing Experience, meet your Captain, an angler with over 20 years of experience fishing in Hong Kong, who will take you out on the Bertram 46-foot Sportfisher boat. The boat is well equipped to fish, including GPS, depth sounders, side scan sonar and a GPS tracker which can be monitored on Google.

You will receive a briefing from your Captain before heading out in search of blue water and deep sea fish. You will be provided with all the equipment you need, including rods, reels, fishing tackle, lures and bait, some personally crafted by the Captain himself. Don’t worry if you’re not an experienced angler, the Captain will give you instructions. The technique used in this experience is trolling, a method where 7 fishing lines set with lures or bait are drawn through the water from the back of the moving boat.

You’ll be surprised by the size and diversity of sea life in Hong Kong’s waters. There are six species of Tuna in Hong Kong, as well as Black Marlin, Chinese Mackerel, Mahi Mahi and Sailfish. Black Marlin caught during this experience can weigh from 100lbs to 350lb. You may also see some sea birds, whales, whale shark and turtles. At the end of the experience, those fish that comply with international game fishing standards will be cleaned and bagged for you to take with you for dinner.

Whilst we cannot guarantee your catch, we can tell you that your Captain in this experience has returned with a plentiful catch every time during the 2010 fishing season, except one occasion. You will be in good hands for a truly unique experience in Hong Kong!

Friday 6th August: We had our first fish before all the lines had been set! A Mahi of 6 Lbs, in moderate seas, wind was force 4-5 East and 1-2 meter waves, also from the East lots of white caps making the lures difficult to see and no tide lines. We came across a number of schools of Kawa Kawa with several multiple hook ups; there were also a large number of birds working the area, which was a pleasant to see. We moved South to some 26 miles out coming across a number of ships anchored awaiting to dock however they had not been there long enough to have fish under them. As the day wore on the tide changed and the lines began to form with more clarity, it was approaching one of these that a Sailfish fin was seen just above the sea surface but before we had time to move closer we had a strike which turned out to be a small Wahoo. Shortly after that we were hit by another strike this time something I have not seen in Hong Kong for a very long time, a Queenfish! Returning to the line and a double strike brought in two Mahi, one being the biggest on the day at 16lbs. Two more followed; unfortunately we were running out of time and had to return home.

Total for the day:

6 Kawa Kawa Tuna
4 Mahi Mahi
1 Wahoo
1 Queenfish
