Awaken your body’s innate healing ability and spirit in this deeply therapeutic 1.5 hour Japanese Shiatsu massage!
Developed in Japan, the word Shiatsu means “finger pressure” and is a form of massage therapy performed by rhythmically pressing the thumbs, fingers and palms on Shiatsu points throughout the body. Shiatsu is especially helpful for relieving neck, shoulder or back pain, headaches, asthmatic symptoms and stress-related symptoms, as well as improving quality of sleep and digestion.
Experience Zen Shiatsu, a form of Shiatsu with roots in traditional chinese medicine theory and Buddhist meditation practices. Before beginning, your therapist will diagnose the blocked points in your meridians and determine a course of treatment based on your body’s state of energy. By applying pressure to the points of imbalance, the massage effectively stimulates the body’s natural healing powers, allowing it to release any physical, emotional and mental blockages.
This experience takes place in a room overlooking Central with the tranquil ambiance of a Zen retreat. Far above the streets, its Japanese décor and soothing neutral tones ease you in and set the tone for a massage that will relieve all tension from your mind and body.
Your therapist is a certified TRE® practitioner, specializing in traditional Zen Shiatsu and Somatics. She studied traditional Zen Shiatsu for over ten years with K.Sasaki, a Japanese master and is a member of the EISA (European Iokai Shiatsu Association).

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Q: How is Shiatsu massage different from other forms of massage?
A: The basis for Shiatsu massage is in traditional Chinese medicine, while the principles of Zen Shiatsu incorporate techniques to help you feel the flow of energy, so it is different from other forms of massage that solely rely on acupuncture points alone to treat problems.
The stretches performed throughout Shiatsu massage are also much deeper than regular massage or Chinese Tui Na, which is why you are advised to wear loose and comfortable clothing. These deep stretches relax the autonomic nervous system, sending you into a very deep, almost trance-like state of relaxation. It also helps to increase organ function.
Q: How should I prepare for my massage?
A: You should not have a heavy meal or alcohol before the massage.
Q: What should I do after the massage?
A: Drink plenty of water after the treatment, as it will help to flush out any accumulated toxins from your body.
