Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has a rich legacy, dating back to ancient China. Over the years, the practice has evolved into a holistic form of alternative medicine, aimed at maintaining overall health and wellness. In this 1.5 hour experience, open your eyes to the expansive world of Traditional Chinese Medicine and embrace an important part of Chinese culture that is often shrouded in mystery.
Introduction to TCM and Chinese Herbal Tea
This experience begins with an introduction to the theory and concepts of TCM. Then, you will delve into the history and uses of Chinese herbs. See, smell and touch typical herbs, such as Rose, Chinese Dates, Goji Berry, Ginseng and Hawthorn. Discover their unique properties and find out what is involved in prescribing and preparing effective Chinese herbal tea concoctions.
A Private Chinese Medicine Consultation
Next, you will have a private consultation with a registered Chinese medicine practitioner. By examining your tongue, taking your pulse and temperature, and studying other external indicators, like your complexion and muscle tone, he will identify the imbalances in your body and prescribe a treatment plan.
The consultation is complemented by a Chinese Medicine Body Constitution Test to determine your body constitution. You will receive a detailed report and advice on how to rebalance yourself, including tips on the best foods to eat and the lifestyle changes needed to remedy your symptoms and strengthen your body.
Experience a Chinese Medicine Treatment
Once diagnosed, you will have a choice of one of the following 15 - 30 minute TCM treatments:
Acupuncture is a healing system, where fine needles are inserted into the key blood channels to stimulate the free flow of energy (Qi) movement through your body.
- Cupping Therapy
Heated cups are placed on targeted parts of the body. Pressure is then applied to create suction on those areas. In the process, toxins are released and blood flow is increased.
- Gua Sha
Meaning ‘to scrape the skin’, Gua Sha involves the use of a smooth flat object, like a spoon, to apply broad, scraping strokes to the body. This treatment stimulates the immune system and cell regeneration.
- TENS Therapy
Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) therapy uses mild electric currents to stimulate the nerves and relieve pain.
- Herbal Ball Hot Compress
The Herbal Ball contains the herb, mugwort. Once heated, the compress is rubbed along your body’s meridian channels, loosening joints and stimulating blood flow.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Are TCM treatments safe? Which treatment should I choose?
Yes, these treatments are commonly used TCM practices and are very safe. However, while effective, some treatments, Gua Sha and Cupping in particular, can also be quite painful and have a high likelihood of leaving temporary red marks or bruising. If you are doing these treatments, do not hesitate to let the practitioner know if you experience any discomfort or pain.
While the Chinese medicine practitioner will recommend a treatment that best suits your current body constitution, if you are uncertain about the option, you are welcome to make your own choice of treatment from the five listed above. For those who prefer a more relaxing experience, we recommend the Herbal Ball Hot Compress treatment. If you are afraid of needles, TENS Therapy is a good alternative to Acupuncture.
I am coming with a friend. Will I still have a private consultation with the practitioner?
A: Your friend may join you in the consultation room. However, if you prefer to have your consultation in private, there is a lounge area where you may wait for one another.
